Thailand Visa Application

Citizens of Sri Lanka

Do You Need a Visa?

Sri Lankan citizens holding ordinary passports are required to obtain a visa before traveling to Thailand, regardless of the purpose of their visit. However, for those transiting through Thailand, a visa is not necessary if they remain within the airport's transit area and the stay does not exceed 12 hours, provided they do not pass through immigration control. If travelers need to go through immigration or if their transit lasts longer than 12 hours, a visa is required. The visa application should be made at a Thai Embassy or Consulate, with the type of visa depending on the purpose and duration of the visit.

Typical Documents Needed for Visa Application:

  • A passport that is valid for at least six months after the date of entry.
  • A filled-out visa application form.
  • Recent photographs in passport size.
  • A confirmed travel plan, including bookings for both return flights and accommodations.
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to support your stay in Thailand.

Thailand and Sri Lanka Bilateral Agreement

Under the bilateral agreement between Thailand and Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan nationals holding Diplomatic or Official passports can enjoy visa-free entry into Thailand for stays not exceeding 90 days. This agreement covers various types of visits, including tourism, business meetings, and official duties, promoting smooth and unhindered travel for Sri Lankan diplomatic and official representatives. The aim is to enhance diplomatic and official exchanges between the two countries. If the visit extends beyond the 90-day limit, Sri Lankan individuals must secure an appropriate visa for the extended stay and the specific purpose of their visit to Thailand.

Additional Information:
The final authority for entry into Thailand rests with the immigration officers at the point of entry, regardless of whether the traveler has a valid visa. Entry may be denied if the traveler is considered to fall under the prohibited categories as outlined in the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979).
